We know that parents and families — and kids! — greatly prefer and benefit from small schools. But what do the staff think — the teachers who make these schools run?
The School Committee’s January survey of teacher/staff opinion about reconfiguration made it clear that teachers greatly prefer K-6. In fact, they preferred K-6 at more than 2 to 1 margins.
That least popular Option C? With only 4% of teachers and staff preferring it? That was the option that the Administration recommended and the School Committee dutifully voted for.
Staff and teachers, like parents, noted in text comments the absence of the obvious alternative: Renovation of both Fort River & Wildwood. Many of them would have likely chosen that alternative as their preferred solution. But even without that option they made their preferences plain: Teachers prefer K-6 education.
