Letter to the editor published online at Amherst Bulletin, Thursday, February 16, 2017:
When the question of the school vote first came up, I was impressed by all the letters in the Amherst Bulletin and the signs on the streets advocating for and against the school proposal.
We were not allowing a spending measure to slide through without a thorough presentation of pros and cons.
Now it has failed twice at Town Meeting. I think there are good reasons to pass it and good reasons to reject it.
What we have in Washington, D.C., is partisan politics with both sides attempting to block the other and escalating frustration and judgment.
In Amherst, I hope we avoid the latest call for a vote and come up with a plan that will be pleasing to a sizable majority.
